Boston 2025

Yes, the year is shaping up to be GREAT

for the defending NBA Champion Boston Celtics

And things are shaping up, too, very well

for the retooled Boston Red Sox.

(Don't know about the New England Patriots

or the New England Revolution - sorry!)

{This is, primarily, a blog about BOSTON}

[As in... BOSTON teams, yes!]

The greater New England...

can take care of itself!

IT'S ALL ABOUT BOSTON;

BOSTON BRUINS... CELTICS, RED SOX...

So, yes... I should cover the Boston Pops, too

Boston Symphony Orchestra...

BOSTON FLEET - certainly!

As we did cover the Boston Blades,

Boston PRIDE...

That lacrosse team they have, also...?

Boston Cream Pie!

THE WORKS!

If it starts with "BOSTON..."

* I COVER IT HERE!!! *

In the blog about Boston...

The City of Champions

- all sorts of champions -

{there are tons of individual champions

to cover, too - many remain unknown}

BOSTON
is the focal point, however -
the city itself... and its mayor, as it is;
she just delivered a rousing, inspiring speech
just the other day, as it happens:

BOSTON MAYOR >>> Montreal mayor (a Valerie)

BY THE WAY...

There is absolutely no comparison! *

We're very close to that - just a reminder!

But this was, obviously, a greater feast day: Ash Wednesday!

If there is one thing I would lament, though,
about Mayor Michelle Wu's discourse,
is that she mentioned the Celtics, she mentioned the Red Sox...
(May have mentioned the Patriots - I'm not sure)
But she definitely did not mention the BRUINS.
Now, everybody's a critic
and, given the nature of her speech, this may not be
even applicable as an element to criticize -
but here, on this blog, it is.
For in these parts of the blogosphere,
THE BRUINS are at the heart of everything.
But that's just ME - again, Michelle Wu's
discourse attracts other sorts of... diatribe.

That's for another time - and another blog.

BACK TO BOSTON, now;
BACK TO THE BRUINS.

Because, before Michelle Wu,
there was a mayor in Boston named
MENINO - and he could have told you:
not just since Bobby Orr
but since Eddie Shore
THE BOSTON BRUINS
are the soul of the city of champions,
emblems of hard-working
hard-luck heroes
who prevail, the majority of the time
but not quite all the time... alas.

EXAMPLES of what perseverance
honest effort and sheer guts
can accomplish.

AND THAT IS WHY,
right there,
they are THE SOUL of THE TOWN!

The Year of Our Lord 2025
may be a lot of different things
for all the other categories of
BOSTONIANS -
but for the Bruins, it is
nothing short of
THE END OF AN ERA.

The last remaining member of that Stanley Cup
championship team of 2011
is now gone - TRADED, to a bitter rival.

MARCHAND was not alone being traded
on the very day of the NHL trade deadline:
Coyle, Frederic, McLaughlin, Jones, Carlo
and Brazeau were all traded away -
with interesting returns, each time...
VERILY, THE BOSTON BRUINS GM
DID THE BEST THAT HE COULD DO,
GIVEN THE DIRE CIRCUMSTANCES...
It has been said that *never* has it been seen
a general manager executing or initiating a rebuild
on the very day of the trade deadline.
Don Sweeney is just that damn good.
And few - so very few - appreciate it.
But we're getting to that in a jiffy...

And so ends a long period
of contending teams
that could aspire to the cup
each and every year;
it started in 2008, really
should have culminated in 2010
but that was delayed until the next year
and then, the very next year,
got derailed a first time...
OTHERWISE, IT COULD HAVE BEEN
{SHOULD HAVE BEEN}
A THREE-PEAT RIGHT THERE!!!
As it has been stated
on this very blog
time and time again...
HENCE, we're looking at a franchise
that has constantly been a contender
for over FIFTEEN YEARS IN A ROW!
MOST of those under the care
of one general manager Don Sweeney
and team president Cam Neely.

On this March of 2025,
they had to make extremely difficult decisions
and admit that their latest attempt
at keeping that awesome streak going
had not worked out - for once.
AND YET... And yet...
At the beginning of this season,
it looked like they had successfully addressed
absolutely ALL of the team's concerns;
Krejci had been replaced by Lindholm (the 2nd)
Coyle appeared ready to step in
and replace Bergeron - and if that didn't pan out,
they had not one but two back-up plans.
They had even found a replacement
for Zdeno Chara - one whose name
also begins with a Z - Zadorov!
A plethora of free agents had been signed
and the team was poised to carry on
contending for a championship
THAT IS... if all the pieces of the puzzle
performed as it was expected of them,
under the guidance of coach Montgomery
who had, just two years earlier,
been given an unbelievable team
that dominated like no other ever had
in the history of the NHL - and it did so
in this era, the era of PARITY,
which made the performance
that much more spectacular
and impressive.

But as we all know, that RECORD YEAR
was ruined in the 7th game
of a series the Bruins dominated
but were still robbed blind in -
in sudden death overtimes
by a bunch of overtly aggressive degenerates
from down south...
Coach Montgomery may have been
outcoached by the degenerates' coach too,
Maurice... it's true.
The cruel evidence is there:
the rematch, the following year,
ended in six games.
Hard-fought games, but still...
Jim Montgomery had no clue what to do
to counter the pesky Panthers tactics.
And the following season,
2024-25... this year, therefore...
it became painfully apparent that
Montgomery's message was not motivating
the players anymore - to the point that
one could wonder if it ever did.
Neely and Sweeney
reacted quickly;
dismissing him.
He rebounded quickly too,
landing the same job with
other lowlife, classless rivals
- the bozos in St.Louis, Missouri...
Where he is floundering.
Jim Montgomery
is a unique case;
his name is in the record books now,
thanks to the circumstances in Boston,
really... and I was rooting for the guy
as much as I pitied him ever since
{knowledge of his personal ailments
will have that effect; it's called empathy}

But this is not about Jim.

This is about BOSTON.

The fanbase - any fanbase - can turn on you
at the drop of a hat.
Or the drop of a pair of gloves.
Anyway... the fact is that
those fans who are calling
Sweeney and even Neely
"clowns" or "dumb and dumber"
while crying over Marchand
"who devoted his entire life"
{allegedly} to Boston
forget one thing, so fast, so easily:
NEELY and SWEENEY
have devoted their entire careers
-as players and, now, as management-
to the Boston Bruins.
They have fought all the wars
- not since 2008 but since 1986 -
and took down, one by one,
all the hated rivals of this team:
it used to be Montreal,
Hartford, Buffalo,
Edmonton, Pittsburgh,
New Jersey...
BOSTON beat them all - in time.
And Neely and Sweeney
were at the forefront of those wars
whether as players
or in their current function.

Don Sweeney even proved himself
the most capable general manager
with his selection of players
for the 4 NATIONS CUP -
which his selection won!
IN BOSTON.
Brad Marchand got to hoist that cup, too.

CAM NEELY...
well, Cam is still THE MAN.
Period.

They have been heroes
the like none of the other franchises
in the fabled City of Champions
has been able to produce:
not Celtics Pride, not Red Sox Nation...
HEROES
with as much brains as brawn.
HEROES
beyond that championship year/season...
HEROES
through thick and thin.

AND, NOW, THEY HAVE THE GUTS
TO PULL THE TRIGGER ON A REBUILD
when they stand 3 point away from a playoff spot
{which isn't bad - but isn't good enough either.
Not for a team that was positioning itself
to be, once again, near the top of the
standings - as they are only two years
removed from THE RECORD SEASON...!}

No... fanboys. NO.

Cam Neely and Don Sweeney
do not deserve to be fired for their
tough calls, astute moves and gutsy acts
- THEY DESERVE YOUR PRAISE
AND RESPECT.

FOR NO ONE HAS THAT SPOKED B
CLOSER TO THEIR HEART
THAN THOSE TWO GUYS -
absolutely no one.
Not any of the players traded today
- no, not even Marchand -
AND CERTAINLY NOT ANY OF THOSE
FAIR-WEATHER, DUCKBOAT FANS!!

I KNOW IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE IT NOW
- HARD TO DIGEST, HARD TO ACCEPT...

BUT THE BOSTON BRUINS WILL BE BACK.

BRAD MARCHAND WILL BE BACK.

...AND NOT LIKE MILAN LUCIC WAS...

THE BOSTON BRUINS
WILL WIN THAT CUP
* AGAIN *

* I would be remiss if I didn't precise it:
the Valerie in Montreal
that doesn't compare to
Boston's Michelle...

It is because she doesn't even compare
to another Valerie, in Montreal...!!!

Heck, she doesn't compare -much less- to THE Valerie:

But that's another story...

The Truth...

... or several truths
about current Celtics!

They're always ready to give it their all

Marcus Smart
has cracked a very elite top ten...

He's surpassed no. 9 DANNY AINGE already...

ENTIRE... ENTRY?
That must be it!

The Reality

October 2019...

THE REAL STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS
defeated the false chumps
DECISIVELY...

This is what happens in Game 7
-NORMALLY-
if the Bruins are at their best;
Wagner is not out,
with a BROKEN ARM...
Pastrnak is not playing hurt...
Bergeron is not banged up...
Marchand is 100%...
Chara is not injured...
ETC... ETC... ETC.

They Can Dream

All their dreams are justified and more than plausible;
because these Bruins have proven that they are
A TRUE TEAM --- and true championship
material. Like the Red Sox. Like the Patriots!
(Like the Celtics, too - per their tradition
and with the coming of Kemba Walker
and departure of Kyrie Irving!
But that's another story...!)

THIS... IS ABOUT THE BRUINS!

AND THEIR FUTURE IS BRIGHT ---
SO BRIGHT... IT IS LUMINOUS!!!

***TRIPLE CROWN***

BOSTON HAS ACHIEVED A
TRIPLE CROWN OF SORTS
--- NO MATTER WHAT!

*SUPER BOWL CHAMPS*
*WORLD SERIES CHAMPS*
AND THE BEAST OF THE EAST
IN THE NHL PLAYOFFS!*

Every other town in North America
is dead envious of this - YOU KNOW IT!

"Wait 'til next year...!!!"

* a trifle banged up, in the end -
as we all know now...
Well, Chris Wagner was not seen in a long while -
he has a broken arm! Several other Bruins played on
with a whole lot of nagging injuries bothering them...
TRUE HEROES - I tell ya!

AND THE ONE TRUE
CHAMPIONS!

Nightmare

Ever had that nice, genuinely sweet dream
turn totally, utterly nightmarish on you -
out of the... blue?

Well, this is pretty much it now:

the Boston Bruins had won 8 in a row
(3 to eliminate Columbus; 4 to sweep Carolina
and a 4-2 decision in game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals)
before losing game 2 in overtime
- but fretting it not, they had come back
to win game 3 handily in a 7-2 rout of the
brutish Blues - *in* St-Louis!
And then... what happened?
A few days later, after multiple miscalls by the refs
and lots of dirty play from their opponents,
the Bruins were in a 3-2 deficit -
one that they courageously climbed out of
with another convincing road victory: 5-1, in game 6.
This set up a winner-take-all game 7,
just like they had done in 2011
against the heavily-favored Vancouver Canucks...
And we all know what happened then...

Alas... this time around... the tables got turned.
The favorites were the Bruins -
clearly the more talented team;
speedier, better in all aspects of the game...
SUPERIOR AT EVERY SINGLE POSITION
with greater depth, too, and better coaching!
The brutish black-eyed Blues
were only good at one thing:
the rough and tumble style
their coach (interim coach!)
had inculcated in them...
A loser bunch, they were LAST
IN THE LEAGUE... until they
started playing like that
in order to steal victory
from their superior quarry!
And let's face it:
EVERYBODY in the league
was better than the Blues!
Until they started doing their
impersonation of...
the Broad Street Bullies
or... the Big Bad Bruins.
THAT is the ONLY WAY
they actually managed to
squeak by playoff opponents
San Jose, Dallas and even
lowly, hapless Winnipeg...!
OTHERWISE...
The Jets would have taken
the Blues out - in 5!

IF THEY PLAYED FAIR,
WITHOUT HITTING
THEIR OPPONENT
EXCESSIVELY,
AT EVERY CHANCE THEY GET,
TRYING TO INJURE
RATHER THAN MERELY
"PLAYING PHYSICAL"...
THE ST-LOUIS BLUES
WOULD NOT BE ABLE
TO COMPETE
WITH ANYBODY
IN THE NHL!

How can we ever trust you again, DON?
You start off the Hockey Night broadcast
proclaiming you believe (...) Boston will win
- then reveal, on Coach's Corner, that the
damnable Binnington rookie goalie
had told you, in the elevator before the game,
that "we are gonna win the championship"
--- oh, rrrrreally?
This after this rag of a paper in St-Louis
printed, ahead of game SIX,
a letter from the Blues team prez
(or whomever) stating that they had
WON - already?!?
AND THIS ISN'T FIXED???
Your DOG was named BLUE after all,
DON... you're dead to me, CHERRY!

Game 7 saw the Boston Bruins
TOTALLY DOMINATE THE PLAY
in the first period:
but instead of leading 2-0 or 3-0,
the blasted Blues got the lucky bounces
and they got two pucks to tumble into
the net instead...
How discouraging and revolting
is that...
Alas, it was almost
- ALMOST -
a carbon copy of what the Bruins
had done to the Canucks in 2011:
with one BIG difference though...
In 2011, the Bruins dominated play
AGAIN: they deserved their 2-0 lead
and eventual 4-0 win
in the cup-clinching game.
In 2019, the Blues do NOT deserve
a lead here; they are being outplayed!
The only time the Blues turn things
around, is when they play rough...
And on June 12th, in a game 7,
you can believe that
the Boston Bruins
are tired of the rough stuff!
But the damned referees
do not call any penalties against
the excessively rough Blues;
and it goes on and on...
The Bruins are worn down.
AND YET - NEVER GIVE UP!
Even when a 3rd lucky goal trickles in
and a 4th dumb-luck bounce -
(off the stick of a former Boston fan,
nothing less; Sanford, Blues fourth-liner,
grew up in the area
and he sure was a fan - now a traitor...
Name eeriely close to Ranford, too...
WOW, eh?)
THE BRUINS STILL BATTLE ON!

For they know they can get it done:
no matter what the odds are!
They were trailing 4-1 in 2013's game 7
against the Toronto Maple Leafs -
THEY SCORED THREE GOALS TO TIE IT
AND THEN WON IT IN OVERTIME
WITHIN FIVE MINUTES...!

Patrice Bergeron was there for all of that;
he knows it can be done!
He inspired his team to rise
and take game 6 in St-Louis,
depriving that entire town
of the joy they thought a sure thing
of seeing their team win it all
on home ice - after 52 years of futility
where even dreaming of this
was futile in itself!

BOSTON PULLS THEIR GOALTENDER
WITH ABOUT 3 MINUTES LEFT!
THEY SCORE!

And it is Matt Grzelcyk who scores, too;
he who had been the victim of a vicious hit from behind
and had just spent most of the Finals in concussion protocol,
being cleared to play just hours, literally, before game 7...
HE is the one who SHOOTS A PERFECT SHOT
into the top corner - for the Bruins' first goal!

The Bruins' lone goal of this game 7...

... sadness ...

INJUSTICE ON ICE

I SAY!

But, just like Chris Wagner in the previous rounds
(and we never saw him in the Finals, after he got injured...)
Matt Grzelcyk impressed upon us all what heroes
these Boston Bruins truly are...

He was one in the making from the very beginning

And he will be one in Boston for quite some time now

And there are so many others like that, on that team:
Joakim Nordstrom, Sean Kuraly, Charlie McAvoy,
Danton Heinen, Brandon Carlo, Torey Krug,
Jake DeBrusk, Charlie Coyle...
it is, truly, from top to bottom here:
THIS IS THE TEAM!

Shades of 1993, really -
when the Boston Bruins knew
THEY HAD THE TEAM
to go all the way - and they were ripped off,
stripped of their chance, in THREE OVERTIMES
(those who know about it will get it;
everybody else - google it!)
 by a heinously jealous team
of ruffians and misfits...
much like the black footed Blues here.

Know who else is dead to me - and to all of Boston, too?
That's right, bro: Jayson Tatum!
Oust him - tar and feather him on the way out...
Bring back Isaiah Thomas!
Tatum was never going to live up to the legend of Reggie Lewis anyway...
NEVER TRUST A JA(Y)SON!
I always said... (not even Momoa!)

Jason Terry sucked pretty bad, too...

In time, this bad dream will be forgotten...
Yes. In time.
Right now, though, it is still too enraging to deal with
for this is really... a nightmare alright.
Not even close to what happened in 1993...

THIS... IS WORSE.
Because the Bruins were only ONE WIN SHORT.
They had battled all the adversity there was;
vanquished, thus far, in splendid fashion
BOTH the NHL's poor officiating
(and obvious blue push, in the later rounds...)
AND the roughhouse, despicable
"whatever it takes" tactics
of a desperate to be relevant franchise
that had never won anything
in half a century...

But you know what?
The Blues didn't win anything.
They did not win it -
THEY STOLE IT.
With unnecessary roughness,
palliating for their lack of skill...
THAT IS NOT A NOBLE VICTORY;
THAT IS NOT A VICTORY AT ALL!

And these Bruins will be back -
and they will be truly VICTORIOUS
- with their resolve, with their heart
and with their grit!

FOR THEY ARE
WITHOUT A SHADOW OF A DOUBT
THE TRUE CHAMPIONS HERE!
